Austin Mini Maker Faire

Austin Mini Maker Faire was amazing and inspiring.

I keep saying that...

This was the perfect collaborative learning environment. Perfect engagement.

A beautiful blend of people from all ages, all backgrounds, all educations, all interests. Beautiful because they were excited about learning. No competition, no pressure to buy something, no intention other than sheer joy for learning. And there was much sharing both this joy and learning.

My favorites:

  • Hearing a 16 year old boy tell me about his first year experience in a robotics class. Very fast, very excited, very knowledgeable.

  • Watching the Wee Warhols make art with giant canvas and catapults

  • Meeting R2D2 (or at least an exact replica of him)

  • Watching a 5 year old win a parachute contest against all ages

  • Watching kids designing little derby cars to race—and then redesigning them after testing them to improve their performance.

  • Seeing a little boy play catch with a robot

  • Climbing inside of a giant dragon

  • Listening to a 10 year old acting as a company rep--and rocking it

But most of all, I enjoyed learning what more I can still learn. Such great things are possible!
