Looking for Services...
The adventures I experienced the past few weeks trying to find a good High School fit for my daughter--Band, Academics, GT servicing--have left me a bit frustrated. How do we compare services that are not advertised?
I have not yet found any forum that actually ranks or reports schools based on their services to gifted learners. Curiously, I have not found any such reporting on any of the special education services. I would think that would be pretty important information for some families. I know it is in ours. It is pretty easy to see the schools that are ranked high for college readiness (thank you US News), but my particular gifted child does not have any motivation in learning college level material. We struggle to keep her engaged with her current age peers. She struggles to find buy in for the typical high school routine. And bless her--she does finally try. I would like to see her succeed.
So...in light of my search to find real answers, I am going to attempt to catalog schools using the TEA standards for gifted education. Here is hoping I get some good responses to the survey I will send out! Responses will be posted on this site for public view. I do not intend to rank schools, as each family of gifted persons may be looking for different kinds of services, but I think that the information should be out there.
What are each school's strengths? What are they doing well?
As always, I welcome your input. Meanwhile, expect new things from this site...more coming soon!
