Winding Down...
I can't quite pin point what it is, but I am always exhausted this time of the year. As students begin their decline into summer, they must be prodded along with words of encouragement and threats of write ups. Sigh...It is this time when you start to wonder, "Why am I teaching?" Because try as I might, it is an enigma to me as to how to make the daily grind of final prep week engaging. Games? Maybe...but then are they getting the material they need to succeed on the final? Shouldn't they already know the material? And struggling students fall into one of two categories: those who have stopped trying, and those who have been failing all year and now as they realize they are about to repeat, try to scramble for a grade. Ah...grades. In a perfect environment appropriate feedback would be enough...students would learn for the sake of learning...I would be leading not prodding. Learning empowers, so why are we so exhausted?
